If you want to have them ship it in a container, ask for DDP. DDP is similar
to FOB destination but FOB destination is only meaningful to Americans. DDP
stands for destination duty paid. It is an “all in” amount of cost of product
plus cost of shipping to your doorstep.

Takes a bit less than a month to arrive.

We just got our first 10km of indoor butterfly drop fiber (not from FS)
delivered and I like the feel of it and it is super easy to work with. It has
blue 250um buffer which is much easier for an old guy like me to see. It works
well with the cheap Chinese SOCs as well which is a plus. Air to JFK was
~$600, $300 import fees and then another $150 ground to Baltimore, but it still
came in super cheap landed. About the same cost per foot as indoor cat5.

FIS is generally more expensive but generally is pretty easy to deal with
and their stuff isn't crap. I don't like their indoor butterfly as it it too
square and doesn't route as well.

The price I got was from FIS. They said lead time is 2-3 weeks.

I'd be interested in what vendor. We have our toes in the importing
from China game and it can be super hit or miss. You can get what looks like
exactly the same thing from two different suppliers and one will be made out of
crap plastic while the other is great. We are testing a similar indoor
butterfly flat drop for conduit runs in MDUs.

So I guess the cable is cheap, but is it good, terrible, or in
between?

That is manufactured by probably twenty different companies in
China and re-sold by at least 50 vendors. If you go to Alibaba and search for
"FTTH drop cable" you will see a product with the exact same cross section
diagram being sold by a ton of resellers.

A vendor just sent me a sample of what they call a "butteryfly"

It's dirt friggin cheap. Like $0.09/foot. Hopefully my little
picture comes through.

The steel measures .042" dia which is somewhere around 18AWG.

You can get it with 1 or 2 bare fibers, and you access them by
peeling apart the two aramid strength members.

The cheapness is tantalizing. Will I regret this vs a "normal"
flat drop cable like Superior Essex or Corning? They put corning glass inside
the jacket so I'm not worried about the optical performance, but I'm wondering
if it's rugged enough.
