Physical space is not going to allow that. Plus the cost goes up
considerably. I am already one of the more expensive surge suppressor
products (and worth every penny).

on the back side and do a double pass through SMT placement and reflow.
It might have enough clearance for the jacks on one board to not scrape
off the fuses on the next board.
I'd prefer not having soldered on fuses for the surge suppressor because
that's a more expensive part to replace. Better to replace a cheap
add-on board or inline, especially if you make a stupid mistake that
blows it.
