Subject: Re: [AFMUG] Mikrotik 6.37.1 ethernet counters - Broken?

Tx/Rx drops and errors? Those are driver-level stats. I have very few routers
where any of those counters are non-zero, and most of those are simply Rx drops
probably because of a buffer overflow from high-cap links like licensed and
AF24's.

The QualComm/Atheros gigabit switch controllers that MikroTik is using in
newer-ish products gives you hardware-level statistics and error counters.

Here's an example from a 493G. Those tabs don't even exist on a 493 or 493AH
because the hardware sucks. You should not even attempt hardware switching on
those boards. There's no switch FDB, so it will function like a hub.

George,

It doesn’t look like the RB493G Counters work either.

493 what? The 493 and 493AH switch controller is dumb and will not give you any
port error stats. The 493G switch controllers will. And pretty much any other
board with gigabit interfaces will as well.

I see. We’re running RB493 on this install.

I think it matters what hardware you have, not software version.

Can anyone confirm that Mikrotik Ethernet error counters work in 6.37.1 and
newer software? I’m trying to identify a problem and was surprised to see all
zeros on these counters. These are columns that need to be added “Right Mouse,
show columns” for them to display. I can’t say that they ever worked since I
have never tried to use them in the past.
