You are gonna love stencil printing. The pcb house I use makes the stencils
too for about $120/

I believe we're into the days category at this point.

The control boards were giving us severe issues with manufacturing. Yields
were below 50% even after rework, which makes the 50% "good" ones suspect also
(a normal yield is over 99% before rework). So I decided to scrap the first
relatively small batch.

I made some board corrections to fix some DFM issues and ordered all of the
stuff we needed to switch from dot printing to stencil printing for the solder
paste. This should hopefully fix the issues. I sent this out before the
holiday.

I just got back in after taking a few days off over the holiday and the revised
boards and new stencils were here waiting for me. Visual inspection looks
fine. Hopefully all will go well and we'll be shipping in the next week or
so. That is, as soon as the production staff gets back from their vacation.

I like Chuck's description about software being like kids. This particular
product seems to be like the kid who fights you every step of the way during
their early years, yet somehow turns out to be the kid who is most responsible
when they grow up. Hopefully this yield issue is the last of the unexpected
problems and we can move into the responsible portion of its life.
