I may be misunderstanding the way it works, but allowing M-series clients to connect to an AC AP would allow you to upgrade the the AP from M to AC now, and upgrade the clients afterward (as needed, as able).

Is this common with mixing ac & n?  For some reason I thought there was backwards and forwards compatibility in 802.11.
Is it a design choice by Ubiquiti for performance reasons maybe?

I could imagine that being a quandry....you don't want to keep buying the older stations, but maybe you can't immediately upgrade every AP either.

If it's a PtP link, where you can switch the roles around and make the AC radio the AP and the Rocket M5 the client, that will work, but if it's a PtMP scenario, the only choices are to use non-AC clients or upgrade the AP to AC.

M5 APs can only have M5 clients, AC APs can have both AC and M

the Nanobeam M5 will work fine to a M5 AP. But the Nanobeam 5AC
will not connect to a M5 ap.

        Hey all,

        Can I install NBE-M5-16
        <https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/nanobeamm/> to a Rocket M5 AP?
Or do I have to upgrade the AP as well?

        Thanks
