Ah, yes... people are going to die because their thermostats have a slow internet connection - sounds legit. I'm pretty sure that pretty much every thermostat there is has a button on the front of it to turn the heat up, regardless of whether or not it's connected to the internet... and if there are any that don't, anybody that bought one oughta be slapped.
The funniest part of the article is that the author thinks that net neutrality somehow affected that.
