Easy there tiger.
Obviously we as the ISP can see what the customer is using by any number of means, I assumed the idea was for the consumer to be able to see it so as to reduce the tech support load of dealing with calls where the customer complains of "slow" which is self inflicted.

I think it would great if there was something with a display on the top telling the user how many mbps they're using right now. Better if the customer can easily see which device in the house is hosing them and better still if it can take a guess at what the traffic is.

Hahaha, oh man. Thanks for that concept and the bonus link. I got good
laughs out of both of those.

You could log/graph client-side usage pretty easily. Everything after
that would involve netflow or some other sort of construct. Not exactly
user-friendly. Nevermind that an increasing amount of traffic is
encrypted and over time we'll see even common known ports become less
reliable as a means of identifying traffic X Y or Z. Nevermind, VPN
usage is going up over time, so you'll just see the container traffic
with no visibility into the actual payload.

Regarding the Norton product...$300 price doesn't include annual
subscription. This device is assuredly built with designed obsolescence,
so they'll stop supporting it after 3 or 4 years. And I'll guarantee
Norton will tell you this device alone won't "protect your PC". For
that, you'll need the separate (non-free) Norton AV installed on each of
your individual devices.

Funny stuff! Keep it coming!

By consumer I mean out of the box user friendly
price-point 150 dollars or less

Norton has a new home router that doesnt look like a terrible thing
other than looking dumb
https://us.norton.com/core-secure-router-features pricier than above,
and not certain it logs
