[AFMUG] Circuit breaker clearance

I am installing a backup generator.  I know  you have to have 3 feet of 
clearance between a circuit breaker panel front and anything else.
Do I need 3 feet from the side of the generator where it’s disconnect switch is 
and then another 3 feet to the transfer switch that will be mounted on an H 
frame on that same side?  So 6 feet total?
