Reason I ask, is because reading the Mikrotik forums really make it sound hit
or miss as to which APC’s work with which model Mikrotiks

This thread for e.g.
https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12670&p=428800&hilit=rb2011+ups+usb#p428800.
This guy tested different APC’s with different Mikrotiks and had mixed results
even between different CCR1036’s. One CCR1036 saw 9 out of the 10 UPS’s he was
testing, but another CCR1036 only saw 1 of the 10.

Thanks for the head’s up on the USB speed

Note that some Mikrotik USB ports only run at USB2.0 speed (480mbit) while many
UPSes only run at USB1.0 speeds (12 / 1.5mbit). I saw this issue while trying
to connect a Back-UPS 350 to a RB951. IIRC inserting a USB2.0 hub between them
will fix it.

Can you recommend a particular model of APC (preferably cheap) that works over
USB to a Mikrotik 2011?

I’ve tested with a couple older ones I have around here, and can’t get the 2011
to recognize the APC through /system ups.

Thanks,
Justin

Most APC’s can be monitored over USP through a Mikrotik router (anyone with a
USB port). That is what we do for out smaller site, in-fact we usually add
external batteries for longer runtime.

Hi,

Does anyone know of any cheap consumer level UPS’s that can be monitored via
SNMP over ethernet?
Something non-rack mountable and that doesn’t require external batteries?
Everything I find wants to be monitored through USB with proprietary programs
like Powerchute, etc…

Thanks,
Justin
