Hi George!

Good luck with your venture.

In South Africa you might approach Ster Kinekor and
Anant/Sanjeev Singh of Videovision (Durban). In
Zimbabwe the man is John Riber, Media for Development
Trust, but also Steve Smith, right here on this
newsgroup. In Tunisia, Ahmed Attia holds the rights
for many films from the Maghreb. In Cairo Gaby
Khoury (Youssef Chahine Film Co) is also a good
distributor. In terms of "Central" African films,
there are many production names. You might be well
served by contacting the secretariat at FESPACO.
Then again, many of those filmmakers are based in
Paris, e.g. Idrissa Ouedraogo. Cheik Omar Sissoko is
now the Minister of Culture for Mali, as well as being
a leading filmmaker, so he is another possibility.
The films from Senegal/Mali/Togo/Burkina Faso are in
French, so be sure to stress the need for an English
subtitled version. Ditto the films from North
Africa, which are in Arabic/French.

Regards
JOHN BADENHORST
