HBFF 2004 CALL FOR ENTRIES

The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) has announced its
Call for Entries for its 6th annual competitive festival for Black
filmmakers.  HBFF 2004 will be held March 30 - April 4, 2004 in
Los Angeles, California.  The festival will feature narrative and
documentary features, short and student films, music videos
and animation in its competitive program.  HBFF also presents a
separate Storyteller Competition for screenwriters.

The festival will be accepting submissions through September
30, 2003. Films must have been completed since September
2001 and one of the filmÕs principles (director, writer or producer)
must be Black or of African heritage.

The early-bird deadline for film and screenplay submissions is
August 31, 2003 ($30 entry fee), the final deadline is September
30, 2003 ($40 entry fee).  Submission forms and guidelines can
be obtained visiting the official festival website at

The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) is an annual 6-day
celebration of black cinema drawing together established
filmmakers, popular film and TV stars, writers, directors, industry
executives, emerging artists and new audiences from Southern
California and around the world.

The festival aims to enhance the careers of emerging and
established black filmmakers through a public exhibition and
competition program.  The festivalÕs goal is to play an integral
role in discovering and launching independent films and
filmmakers by bringing them to the attention of the industry,
press and public.

Since its inception in 1999, HBFF has screened a total of 289
independent films including 46 features, 155 shorts, 46
documentaries, 34 student films, 6 animated films and 2 music
videos, from all across the U.S., U.K., Canada and the
Caribbean.  It has held 142 world premieres, 8 U.S. premieres,
49 West Coast premieres and 39 Los Angeles premieres.  Over
27,000 people have enjoyed the diversity of black cinema by
attending the annual festival screenings.

MEET THE HBFF TEAM & NETWORK WITH OTHER
FILMMAKERS AT IFP/LA'S DIVERSITY EXPO & OPEN HOUSE

YOU ARE INVITED TO IFP/LAÕs DIVERSITY EXPO and OPEN
HOUSE -- IFP/Los Angeles welcomes members of the California
film community to our first Diversity Expo and Open House.
Increasing opportunities for people of color to make films, and/or
work behind the scenes is a key part of our mission. In our
continuing efforts to provide access to under represented
communities, IFP/Los Angeles is opening its doors to film and
entertainment organizations looking to network and introduce
their resources to filmmakers of color in Los Angeles.

The Diversity Expo will take place on Thursday, July 31, at 7:00
pm at the IFP/LA office. Student filmmakers, recent arrivals to the
city, andfilmmakers looking to expand their community are all
invited. Take a tour of IFPÕs low-cost production services, check
out the resources in our library, and get information about all the
benefits of an IFP/Los Angeles membership. Also, this is a great
opportunity to meet representatives from film organizations in
your community with additional resources.  The vibe will be set
by a live DJ, and the food will be good. Join us for
this unique opportunity to get to know the real independent film
community.

This event is free and open to the public.

Danny Glover returns to chair THIRD ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL
BLACK PANTHER FILM FESTIVAL which runs Thursday, July 31,
2003 through Monday, August 4, 2003 at City College's Aaron
Davis Hall, Columbia University; Lerner Hall's Roone Arledge
Cinema, and The Studio Museum in Harlem. In addition to films,
the program includes spoken word events, special panels, Q &
A's with directors, and workshops.  For more information:

The 2004 INDEPENDENT BLACK FILM FESTIVAL is now
accepting submissions for films, screenplays, and film
soundtrack scores. The festival takes place January 23-26, 2004
at the Magic Johnson Theatres in Atlanta, Georgia.  The
Independent Black Film Festival will highlight pioneering
filmmakers who are defining the new direction of independent
film as well as bringing the indie film community together for
networking, deal-making, opportunities to meet financiers,
distribution deals, politiking with attorneys, accountants and
other filmmaking pros.  For more information:

... it's "OFFICIAL," the URBAN LITERARY FILM FESTIVAL is now
open for   business. The first urban-independent film festival in
North Carolina will take place October 16-18, 2003 in
Greensboro, North Carolina.  If you're a singer, rapper, model,
poet or aspiring actor, writer,  director, producer or filmmaker, the
Urban Literary Film Festival is North Carolina's first venue to tap
into the market that so many Hip Hop artists have already paved
