Subject: CLASS: Berkeley, CA, USA, Djembe-Dunun, Amadou Camara
Amadou Camara is a source musician from Conakry, Guinea and he is teaching
class in the berkeley CA area.
All level/ Mixed level class
Sundays: 11-12:30pm at 3105 Shattuck Ave at LA Pena Cultural Center in
Berkeley. 4 minute walk from the Ashby BART station. Drop-in basis and its
$15 per session. Recent rhythms include Soboninkun (with funky triple bell)
, Konowulen and Goron. Most students in this class play djembe with more
advanced students playing dunun and djembe. Some solo phrasing taught but
its usually the standard forms and some variations on dunun. This class is a
supportive, multi-cultural learning environment where the students all try
and help each other out. After all, were all students.
Amadou also teaches a mixed level class in Santa Rosa, CA during the week.
Advanced Class
Now forming and will start in the new year in the Berkeley area on either
saturday or sunday. dont know exactly what it will consist of, but most
likely more challenging djembe accompiaments, solo phrases, calling
enchaufments and the dunun going in and out of enchaufments, more dununbas
etc. This would be a good class if you already can play djembe and can hold
the basic accompiaments cleanly, but want to get to the next level. Everyone
that is considering taking the advanced class already plays djembe and dunun
or dances/ plays dunun or is a professional musician on another instrument
and is studying djembe. This would be a good opportunity to get into a class
that will push you a little bit more that your average group lesson.
Questions about either class can be directed to Amadou at (707) 490-6775 or by
email at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

THE DRAGON BALL - New Years Eve in Balboa Park.
Reflecting the Museum's diverse representation of world cultures, the
Dragon Ball offers two areas of contemporary international music,
special art performances, 4 full bars, and a midnight celebration.
The outdoor area, in the courtyard at the base of the 200-foot
California Tower, emphasizes the music and rhythms of the 'New World'
(sounds of Brazil, Central America, Cuba, Panama, and West Indies)
with the likes of San Diego's own Jangada and Super Sonic Samba
School.
The indoor area, under the 100 foot dome of the Museum of Man,
showcases electronic music that draws from sounds of the 'Old
World' (Africa, Europe, the Middle East and South Asia) starring two
very successful international world music producers, Karsh Kale of
NYC and Janaka of San Francisco. This global carnival also features
Brazilian 'Fantasia' Samba dancers, surreal Circus performances from
Iain Gunn's Mythologram Theater, and the Middle Eastern fusion of the
Urban Tribal Dance Company.
