4. Grammy nomination for Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba
Posted by: "Ilka Schlockermann" [email protected] african.beat
Date: Thu Dec 9, 2010 2:44 pm ((PST))
*"Out Here Records are proud to announce that Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba
have been nominated for a Grammy Award in the 'Best Traditional World Music
Album' category for their album 'I Speak Fula'. Thanks also to our great
partners at Sub Pop/ Next Ambiance in the US for making this happen.*" *Jay
Rutledge, Out Here Records, Munich*
*See full press release below. For more information and hi res images,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Grammy Award nomination for Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba*
*London, UK, 2 December 2010* - 'I Speak Fula', the current album by Mali's
ngoni superstars Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba, has been been nominated at the
53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards in the 'Best Traditional World Music Album'
category. Nominations were announced in Los Angeles last night and
the Awards will take place on 13 February 2011.
http://www.grammy.com/nominees?year=2010&genre=34
The last few years have seen Bassekou Kouyate being catapulted to the top
league of world music stars. His debut album 'Segu Blue', released in 2007
by Munich-based label Out Here Records, received critical acclaim and won
the band the coveted honour of performing on the 'Later with Jools Holland'
TV show on BBC 2, as well as two BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music (Album
of the Year and Best African Act). Bassekou transformed the traditional
music of the ngoni for the modern world and his bands sophomore effort, 'I
Speak Fula' (released by Out Here Records on 21 September 2009 in Europe),
conveys the energy and infectious intensity of the bands live performances.
Unsurprisingly, this album also received widespread critical acclaim and in
October 2009 Bassekou performed on 'Later with Jools Holland' for the second
time, alongside Yoko Ono, Smokey Robinson, The Dead Weather and Basement
Jaxx. In the summer of 2010 "the best rocknroll band in the world" (as The
Independent calls them) made their debut appearance at the legendary
Glastonbury festival, stunning audiences with "Malian madrigals, performed
with slow-burning intensity by Amy Sacko and riff-heavy hoedowns delivered
at a pace that would leave Motörhead gasping for air" (The Guardian); The
Guardian also included the band's performance amongst "The moments that made
this year's Glastonbury".
After their success in Europe, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba are now making
serious waves in the US. They completed a mammoth tour of over 60 dates,
from Maine to Los Angeles - knocking out audiences everywhere. For the first
six weeks, they toured with banjo player Bela Fleck and his Africa Project,
on the heels of two earlier Grammy wins for Flecks 'Throw Down Your Heart'
album, which includes Bassekou on the title track. The tour included several
additional collaborations, including Taj Mahal singing with the band in San
Francisco, and performances with guitarist Bill Frisell at the Savannah Arts
Festival, with lots of raves in the press, radio and TV appearances.
'Segu Blue', the debut album of Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba, had already
laid a solid foundation for Bassekous reputation with African music fans in
the US (where it was released via Out Here Records/ Forced Exposure). Just
in time for the US tour Out Here Records announced a new label partner in
the US: Seattle-based indie rock label Sub Pop who licensed and
released Bassekou Kouyates second album 'I Speak Fula' (digital US release
date was 1 December 2009, the CD was released on 2 February 2010). It was
the first release on their newly founded sub label Next Ambiance, a
collaboration between Sub Pop Records and Jon Kertzer, presenter of the
'Best Ambiance' show on Seattle-based public radio station KEXP. "Ive
listened and learned so much from Jons show for half of my life,"
states Jonathan Poneman who co-founded Sub Pop Records in 1988 with Bruce
Pavitt. "It just seemed natural to put his knowledge, resources and
remarkable taste to further use. Our first release with Bassekou Kouyate and
his incredible band Ngoni ba is the perfect way to begin this new adventure.
Their album 'I Speak Fula' captures this truly original music, like nothing
you have heard before." Sub Pop was the original home to such legendary
bands as Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney, and has enjoyed more recent
success with such artists as The Postal Service, The Shins, Iron &
Wine, Band of Horses, Flight of the Conchords and Fleet Foxes.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS ANNOUNCED FOR
THE 2011 WORLD FESTIVAL OF SACRED MUSIC- LOS ANGELES
Performers, Venues, Producers Sought for Citywide Event
Los Angeles, Judy Mitoma, Director of the acclaimed World Festival of Sacred
Music-Los Angeles has officially launched the fifth World Festival of Sacred
Music which will take place from Oct 1-16, 2011 in Los Angeles,
California."Based on the success of the first event in 1999 and continuing
enthusiasm amongst the community, we continue our commitment to a new Festival
every three years." says Mitoma, producer of the 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2008
Festivals and Director of the UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance.
The 2011 Festival invites performing artists (music/dance) and venues including
churches, synagogues, mosques, museums to submit their applications by January
10, 2011. Full details and guidelines are available at the official website,
www.festivalofsacredmusic.org<http://www.festivalofsacredmusic.org>. The 2011
Festival will host 25 events over 16 days, and feature music, dance, -
classical, traditional and contemporary - including special Opening and Closing
ceremonies. This intercultural, interfaith, interethnic collaborative effort is
founded on the belief that sacred music has the ability to bring forth shared
human values on which humanity's future depends: peace, understanding and
respect for all living things.
His Holiness The Dalai Lama described the 1999 World Festival of Sacred Music
as an opportunity "to recognize the interconnected nature of our lives which in
turn emphasizes the need for each one of us to develop the spirit of mutual
understanding and cooperation in tackling problems facing us today. Among the
many forms in which human spirit has tried to express its innermost yearnings
and perceptions, music is perhaps the most universal. It symbolizes the
yearnings for harmony, with oneself and with others; with nature and with the
spiritual and the sacred within us and around us."
World Festival of Sacred Music-Los Angeles is a project of Foundation for World
Arts, a non-profit organization, UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance
(CIP) and EarthWays Foundation. Support for 2011 Festival is provided by The
James Irvine Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts and the Los
Angeles County Arts Commission

This person should have knowledge with Angolan genres such as: Kuduru,
Ghetto Zouk, Semba, RnB, Soul, and Kilapanga.
It is for a new service in a new TV operator in Angola, that would include
audio channels of different music genres. we are looking for someone who
whould edit the Angolan music channel.
The person that will get this job must have *access to new releases (only
audio. We work with mp3 files) *and former editing experience will be much
preferred.
The editing work will be done from home, as a *part time job*, and will be
accompanied with guidance and cooperation from Musicoolaâs production team.
Naturally, payment will be discussed when closing with a right candidate.
Please contact me if you have an idea. You can email me back, or call me at:

10. Sepphoris - Music for Meditation from Ancient Israel free downloads

Sepphoris - Music for Meditation from Ancient Israel was recorded at one of
the ancient healing sites of Galilee in an amazing water aqueduct. Wordless
vocals, frame drum, bells, peace doves and birds who flew into the well as I
was recording. No sound effects. It's all natural.
You can download free music at the website: http://bit.ly/f5rJtD
Please pass the word on.
Wishing you all a happy holiday season.
All the best,
Eliana Gilad
