I have not been receiving African beat posts.

[ AFRICANBEAT EDITOR's NOTE:

Thank you for writing Larry....

Folks - I am so sorry about not getting the Digest out to you on a timely basis
and I beg your forgiveness. Today when I logged on to yahoogroups I had over
500 spam messages that I had to wade through to get to the few important
messages I know you all want to read. Dealing with all the spam the African
Beat Digest receives has become a huge job that take way too much of my time.
Please forgive me, I will try to do better! I can use some help moderating the
Digest if anyone is interested...please e me at

2. Koffi Olomide Concert
Posted by: "niyonga bo" [email protected] fugene66
Date: Fri Jun 3, 2011 3:52 pm ((PDT))

I just uploaded this video of Koffi Olomide European tour Concert to clarify
this.

Suzuki Luzubu dances in this video.

Suzuki always dances to this sebene when he has the stage to himself. In a few
concerts he adds the part where does like he is talking on the telephone. In
other concerts, he does not do like he is talking on the telephone, but he does
everything else.

Some of my friends and I think he is paying his respects or hommage to Late
Pepe Kalle. One of them said the Late Franco.

Are there others who think the same as well?

6. English Congolese Rumba et Koffi featuring Papy Ipepi
Posted by: "niyonga bo" [email protected] fugene66
Date: Fri Jun 3, 2011 3:53 pm ((PDT))

Another DVD I have not listened to much.

I like this song sung in English by Kanda Bongo Man - My Love Elisabeth.

It is nice even though English may be his 3rd, 4th or more language.

I did not know Faya Tess is in this KBM album even though I can't tell her
voice.

Enjoy

I have uploaded the clip of Papy Ipepi Et koffi Olomide et QLI

It is A Koffi Olomide et QLI concert from their Magie Album tour.

I don't know how I could not have liked this concert the first time I watched
it.

AddisTunes - because we care about African music    FEATURE: Liz Ogumbo gives
us some KenSoul Kenyan-born Liz Ogumbo is more than just the newest singing
sensation to represent for Mama Africa (trust me, she’s that good)…but
she’s also a gifted fashion designer, model, and storyteller.  When I first
heard her release “KenSoul,” I was looking for someone to smack (yes, it
was that good!).  Liz unleashes her sultry vocals – combined with a wicked
sense of humor  - to bless
us with one of the greatest musical gifts of all time (did I mention it was
that good?).

In KenSoul, Liz talks about her day-to-day realizations in life with a
cheerful joy – seeded in the Luo culture of Kenya’s lakeside region.
Listen to Liz’s “KenSoul” today!  Your ears will thank you.

Tumi and The Volume were recently nominated for a South African Music Award
in the best rap album category.

“Turn off the electricity; the dancers of Bale Folclorico da Bahia
power the show.”
-- The Orange County Register

Balé Folclórico da Bahia, the only professional folk dance company
in Brazil, was formed in 1988 by Walson Botelho and Ninho Reis and has
achieved considerable success in its relatively short history. Under
the artistic direction of José Carlos Arandiba, the company’s many
national and international tours have earned it a prestigious
reputation throughout the country and abroad that is reflected in both
public and critical acclaim.

The 38-member troupe of dancers, musicians and singers performs a
spectacular repertory based on “Bahian” folkloric dances of
African origin including slave dances, capoeira (a form of martial
arts), samba, and those celebrating Carnival. The company presents the
region’s most important cultural manifestations under a contemporary
theatrical vision that reflects its popular
origins.

Brothers Of Brazil

California 2011 Tour

 (SideOneDummy)

It’s probably safe to say that you’ve never heard anything like
Brothers Of Brazil before. For the past three years the brotherly duo
of Supla and Joäo have been making some of the most original songs
around by combining elements of traditional Brazilian music such as
Bossa nova and samba with rock and funk to create a unique sound
that’s won over countless fans in the band’s home base of South
America—and now they’re finally ready to expand worldwide with the
release of their self-titled album.

The duo was started when the brothers got a job hosting their own
national variety show in Brazil called Brothers on Rede TV.  It was
then they realized that when they collaborated the results were beyond
what they had ever imagined.

After the TV show ran its course the duo decided to pursue their newly
found realization and start Brothers Of Brazil.  Their debut album
was produced by Mario Caldato, Jr. (Beastie Boys, Tone Loc).

Brothers of Brazil is set for release on SideOneDummy on July 26,
2011.  The band will be doing a series of shows in California in June
and will soon be announcing a residency in New York in July.

>From the instantly catchy samba sound of “Samba Around The Clock”
to the rockabilly vibe of “Paparazzi” Brothers Of Brazil is an
album that takes the band’s diverse group of influences and
juxtaposes them into a very listenable brand of music that has as much
emphasis on storytelling as it does songwriting. “We’re both into
rock and Brazilian music so Brothers Of Brazil is very about that
mix,” explains Joäo.

The Brothers have already played huge festivals such as Planeta Terra
and the SWU Music + Arts Festival as well as Rock In Rio in Portugal
and now couldn’t be more excited about finally having a worldwide
release for Brothers Of Brazil.
