Don, you've just mentioned a group project abroad in Ghana. There is also one in Nigeria aimed at teaching Yoruba language and culture: http://web.africa.ufl.edu/YorubaGPA.html . I've been a participant last year and it was a very great and valuable experience. This year's deadline has already passed but the programm is said to run for at least three years.
