Since the last couple of items have mentioned education in Africa, I thought I'd insert mention here of the "FAO and ADEA Workshop on Education for Rural People in Africa" which will be held on November 28-29, 2007 in Rome, Italy. Rome is the location of the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) main offices. The Association for Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) is based in Paris.
Leaving aside the issue of having a summit on African education in Europe, the topic is interesting and presumably will include discussion of education (primary and adult) in the main languages of rural people, and issues like optimally inclusive "language portfolios" for the products of said education.
