CYBER GEOPOLITICS

US-CHINA tech rivarly

“The United States has significantly ratcheted up its trade war with China in
recent weeks by firing two new shots. First, President Trump signed an
executive
order<https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-securing-information-communications-technology-services-supply-chain/>
that is expected to restrict Chinese telecommunications companies Huawei and
ZTE Corp. from selling their equipment and services in the United States.
Second, the Department of Commerce put Huawei on an export control
blacklist<https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-china-huaweitech/chinas-huawei-70-affiliates-placed-on-us-trade-blacklist-idUSKCN1SL2W4>
that forbids U.S. individuals and businesses from selling goods to these
companies without a license from the U.S. government. Such a license can be
denied if the sale or transfer would harm U.S. national security or foreign
policy
interests<https://www.afp.com/en/news/15/china-warns-us-against-trade-harm-over-huawei-ban-doc-1gi2d12>.”

Furthermore, “The US government’s efforts to reduce the influence of Huawei
Technologies, the world’s largest telecommunications equipment supplier, has
extended beyond business to cover scientific research.”
