Indeed, good luck Aninf with your agenda to regain sovereignty for .ga ccTLD.
I recall that AFTLD pushed for this direction some years back, so, it is good
for those us that
were involved then to see this bold move now in this direction.
It is hoped that those African ccTLDs remaining under Freenom will similarly
see the light
that .ga has seen and is seeking to gain with this bold move.
Many African countries are operating their ccTLDs and more and the more of
these African
ccTLDs are running on their own within their sovereign country in the manner
that .ga is
seeking, so, it is hoped that .ga can do the same after AFNIC has assisted with
the transition.

de retour vers une gestion gabonaise
Libreville, le 30 mai 2023 : L'Aninf, l´Agence Nationale des
Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences de la République
gabonaise, assurera à compter du samedi 3 juin 2023 la gestion
complète du registre et de son extension nationale le « .ga ». Dans
un pays dont l'économie est en plein essor, un changement de
gouvernance est préparé de longue date pour mieux accompagner
les titulaires et l´écosystème numérique. Une opération de bascule
d´opérateur technique sera réalisée avec le concours de l´Afnic
(Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération).
La gestion de l´extension .ga opérée jusque-là par l´entreprise Freenom
n´ayant pas donnésatisfaction à la communauté internet, les autorités
gabonaises ont souhaité mettre fin au contrat actuel et réinternaliser la
gestion de l´extension nationale au Gabon. Le pays, troisième économie
de l´Afrique Centrale, a en effet besoin d´outils numériques fiables pour
soutenir la présence en ligne des entreprises, associations, institutions
et particuliers.
Le 07 juin : les .ga seront rebasculés vers l´Aninf avec l´aide
technique de l´Afnic
Depuis un an, l´Aninf s´est rapprochée de l´Afnic afin d´être appuyée
techniquement et opérationnellement dans sa démarche de
réappropriation gabonaise du .ga, clé de voûte d´une souveraineté
numérique réaffirmée. Début juin, L´Aninf et l´Afnic effectueront la
bascule des infrastructures d´enregistrement et de résolution des noms
de domaines en .ga vers le Gabon et son prestataire l´Afnic.
Cette extension sera opérée et gérée selon les plus hauts standards de
qualité de service et de sécurité, et participera pleinement au
développement de l´internet au Gabon. Pour autant, l´Aninf et la
communauté internet gabonaise souhaitent que leur extension reste
ouverte au monde entier, et qu´elle puisse être utile à toutes celles et
ceux, particuliers, associations, entreprises, qui ont un intérêt ou un
attachement au Gabon.
Vers une base saine pour soutenir un écosystème numérique
dynamique
L´Aninf évalue aujourd´hui à plus de 7 millions de noms de domaines le
stock contenu dans la base du .ga. Toutefois, l´ensemble des
organismes indépendants estiment que les abus techniques sur les
noms de domaine en « .ga » sont légion. A l´occasion de l´opération de
bascule, plusieurs millions de noms de domaines devraient être
supprimés car le précédent opérateur n´a pas fourni les données les
concernant.
Afin de minimiser l´impact de ces suppressions sur l´écosystème
numérique, l´Aninf mène une vaste campagne de sensibilisation auprès
de l´ensemble de son réseau de bureaux d´enregistrement. Son
objectif : assurer la transition des noms de domaines de leurs clients
actuels et faciliter l´accès au niveau système d´enregistrement de noms
de domaine. La campagne se fait aussi auprès du grand public.
Ce n´est pas la première fois que l´Afnic accompagne techniquement
des extensions de premier plan. Connue pour son rôle de gestion des 4
millions de «.fr » et de 20 extensions, elle accompagne des extensions
actives, qu´elles soient celles de marques incontournables, àl´instar du
« .mma » ou « .leclerc » ou d´autres extensions nationales comme le
« .sn ».

L´Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences, est un
organisme

.ga domain names soon to return to
Gabonese management
Libreville, 30 May 2023: ANINF, the National Agency for Digital
Infrastructure and Frequencies of the Gabonese Republic, will take
over the full management of the registry and its national TLD
`.ga´as of Saturday 3 June 2023. In a country with a booming
economy, this change in governance has been in the making for a
long time in order to better accompany domain name holders and
the digital ecosystem. A back-end registry operator switch-over
will be carried out with the support of Afnic, the French Network
Information Centre.
Due to the failure of the company Freenom, which has managed the .ga
TLD up until now, to provide the Internet community with a satisfactory
service, the Gabonese authorities decided to terminate the current
contract and bring the management of Gabon´s national TLD back in
house. This decision is backed by the country´s need, as the third
largest economy in Central Africa, for reliable digital tools to support the
online presence of businesses, associations, institutions and private
individuals.
7 June: .ga domains will be switched over to ANINF with the
technical assistance of Afnic
For the past year, ANINF has turned to Afnic for technical and
operational assistance in its task of taking back the management of the
.ga TLD, a cornerstone in the reassertion of its digital sovereignty. In
early June, ANINF and Afnic will carry out the switch-over of the
registration and resolution infrastructure for .ga domain names back to
Gabon and its service provider Afnic.
The TLD will be operated and managed to the highest standards of
service quality and security, and will play an integral role in the
development of the Internet in Gabon. For all that, ANINF and the
Gabonese Internet community wish for their domain to remain open to
the entire world, and for it to be of use to all those, whether private
individuals, associations or businesses, with an interest in or fondness
for Gabon.
Towards a sound basis to support a dynamic digital ecosystem
ANINF estimates that there are currently over 7 million domain names in
stock in the .ga name base. However, independent bodies on the whole
consider that there is widespread technical abuse on `.ga´ domain
names. As part of this switch-over operation, several million domain
names will be deleted as the previous operator has not provided the
data that concern them.
In order to minimise the impact of these deletions on the digital
ecosystem, ANINF is conducting a vast awareness campaign among
the entire registrar network. The goal is to ensure the transition of their
current customers´ domain names and facilitate access to the new
domain name registration system. The campaign will also target the
general public.
This is not the first time that Afnic will provide technical assistance to a
major TLD. Known for its role in managing 4 million `.fr´ domain names
and 20 TLDs, it supports active domains, whether they are big brands
like `.mma´ and `.leclerc´ or ccTLDs like `.sn´.

The Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences
(ANINF), is an
organisation tasked with managing the digital infrastructure and
frequencies of the Gabonese
