Dear Members of the AFRINIC Community,
As this 2025 year comes to a close, we extend our sincere appreciation to our
Members, Community, and Partners for your continued trust, engagement and
support. Your resilience, active participation and commitment have played a
vital role in strengthening AFRINIC’s stability and advancing our shared
mission to support and grow Africa’s Internet ecosystem.
Through your ongoing patronage and participation, AFRINIC has been able to
uphold transparent governance, reinforce community-led processes, and
responsibly steward Internet number resources for the benefit of the region. We
are deeply grateful for the confidence you have continued to place in the
organisation during a challenging but defining period.
Without doubt, 2025 has been a landmark and transformative year for AFRINIC. It
marked the beginning of a new AFRINIC following the successful conduct of
elections that filled Board positions and brought an end to nearly three years
of governance vacuum. This new beginning was strongly affirmed by the
community, with impressive participation at two major AFRINIC events. The
Board–Community Engagement Session attracted 261 participants, followed by
AFRINIC-36, our Public Policy Meeting, which welcomed 168 participants. The
Board has been both encouraged and energised by this renewed unity and level of
engagement, and we fully intend to build on this momentum with even more
interactions in the coming year.
The Board is committed to acting decisively and responsibly to steer AFRINIC
into a new future, one that moves beyond past governance challenges and builds
a stronger, more credible, and more resilient organisation, capable of
delivering on its mandate and ensuring AFRINIC’s long-term effectiveness and
credibility.
At the outset of our tenure, we prioritised urgent legal, operational, and
administrative matters that could be resolved in the short term. These steps
were necessary to stabilise the organisation and close critical outstanding
issues before embarking on longer-term strategic planning.
As part of our recent Board retreat in Mauritius, we began developing a roadmap
to guide AFRINIC from recovery into a phase of sustainable stability and growth.
The key principles of this roadmap include:
Strengthening AFRINIC as an organisation, with a focus on resilience,
effectiveness, and good governance
Rebuilding trust and strengthening relationships with members across the region.
Ensuring more regular, structured, and meaningful engagement between the Board
and the community, including face-to-face and region-based interactions.
Improving transparency, accountability, and communication around AFRINIC
activities.
Community engagement remains central to restoring confidence and ensuring that
AFRINIC continues to serve the region effectively. As part of our broader
commitment to rebuilding dialogue, strengthening trust, and moving forward
collaboratively, we plan to convene additional engagement sessions in 2026. I
also look forward to presenting AFRINIC’s strategic roadmap in January, just a
few weeks from now.

New Year filled with renewed hope, strengthened collaboration, and shared
success.
