John Malveaux,

I strongly recommend the following series of reference books that have been
published by Greenwood Press. The titles are somewhat misleading because
the content does include added instrumentation. In particular, I suggest
that you begin with the String Music volume - it includes works that range
from solo instrument to orchestra. Publisher information is also provided.

The author is Aaron Horne.

(1990) Woodwind Music of Black Composers: A Bibliography. Westport, CT:
Greenwood Press.

(1991) String Music of Black Composers: A Bibliography. Westport, CT:
Greenwood Press. (Note: Also includes strings with other instruments.)

(1992) Keyboard Music of Black Composers: A Bibliography. Westport, CT:
Greenwood Press.

(1996) Brass Music of Black Composers: A Bibliography. Westport, CT:
Greenwood Press.

As a complement to these published works, you may also wish to take a look
at my reference web site, a comprehensive discography of Classical Music
Recordings of Black Composers. < http://astro.temple.edu/~rgreene/BlackComp
> It includes a listing of commercial CD recordings for 93 Black composers.

I hope this is helpful.

Richard Greene
