This message serves as a call for nominations for candidates to
serve as chairs of the afs3-standardization group. Please read on
for details on how the process will work and how to register your
nomination(s).

As noted in a previous message, the registrars have determined that
there is sufficient consensus within the community on the process
described in draft-wilkinson-afs3-standardisation-00.txt to proceed
with election of initial chairs as described in that document. The
elections process is defined in section 2.2.2, with additional notes
on initial bootstrapping as described in section 3.

Since there are not yet any chairs, the registrars will perform the
vote-taking role. The current registrars and their email addresses
to be used for this election are as follows:

 Jeffrey Hutzelman <[email protected]>
 Thomas Kula <[email protected]>
 David Howells <[email protected]>

Consistent with the constraints described in section 2.2.2, the
registrars have adopted the following timeline for this election:

 01-Jul-2010 Eligibility Cutoff (see below)
 03-Aug-2010 Call for nominations
 17-Aug-2010 Nominations close - 23:59 UTC
 24-Aug-2010 Call for votes
 07-Sep-2010 Voting closes - 23:59 UTC
 14-Sep-2010 Results announced
 01-Oct-2010 New chairs take office

As provided in section 3, this election will result in appointment of
up to two chairs. The individual receiving the largest number of
votes will serve a two-year term, from October 1, 2010 to September 30,
2012. The individual receiving the next largest number of votes will
serve a one-year term, from October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011.

Eligibility to vote is determined by those who are subscribed to, or
have posted to, the standardisation group during the time period from
the 1st of June to the 1st July of the appropriate year. There were
no unsubscriptions and no posts from non-subscribers during June, so
the list of eligible voters is the same as the list of subscribers
as of July 1, 2010, which I have reproduced below. For the record,
in the first half of 2010 there were exactly five messages from
non-subscribers; one was a post in January from Derek Atkins, and
four were messages from two different IETF participants (SM and
Elwyn Davies), not otherwise active in the AFS community, commenting
on Russ Allbery's draft describing use of SRV RR's for AFS.

Any subscriber to this list may view the current list of subscribers
by entering their email address and list password at the bottom of
<http://michigan-openafs-lists.central.org/mailman/listinfo/afs3-standardization>

Anyone at all may view the list of posts made during June, 2010 by visiting
<http://michigan-openafs-lists.central.org/archives/afs3-standardization/2010-June/date.html>

Nominations should be sent to the afs3-standardization mailing list and
to all three vote-takers, at the email addresses listed above. Any
consenting individual may be nominated, but shall be both proposed and
seconded by eligible voters. Self-nomination is not permitted.

As shown in the above timeline, nominations are open for a period of 14
days from today, ending at 23:59 UTC on August 17, 2010. Nominations
received after that time will not be considered.
