First, I can tell you why you are having problems with GLPRO MP3 playback. It's not designed to handle variable bit rate MP3s. It assumes the bitrate is constant. So it's quite confused by variable bit rate files. Unfortunately (for GLPRO users), most quality MP3 files these days are variable bitrate. A lot of the sound mixing support that GLPRO did in software is now done by windows as part of the DirectSound API. So it's not nearly as hard as it used to be to play multiple sounds at the same time. When we needed to optimize the performance of the MP3 playback (so GLPRO could playback MP3 on slower pentium machines). We contacted the author of Petite (the EXE file compressor used for GLPRO) to write an optimized version of the MP3 packet decode (the slow part). I remember the contract with him was not transferable, so who ever purchased the rights to GLPRO did not get the rights to the MP3 playback. Since then he released his own sound library called BASS. Here is the rundown: BASS is an audio library for use in Windows and Mac OSX software. Its purpose is to provide developers with the most powerful and efficient (yet easy to use), sample, stream (MP3, MP2, MP1, OGG, WAV, AIFF, custom generated, and more via add-ons), MOD music (XM, IT, S3M, MOD, MTM, UMX), MO3 music (MP3/OGG compressed MODs), and recording functions. All in a tiny DLL, under 100KB* in size. On Windows, BASS requires DirectX 3 or above for output, and takes advantage of DirectSound and DirectSound3D hardware accelerated drivers, when available. On OSX, BASS uses CoreAudio for output, and OSX 10.3 or above is recommended. Both PowerPC and Intel Macs are supported. C/C++, Delphi, Visual Basic and MASM APIs are provided, with several examples to get you started. Other APIs are also available. http://www.un4seen.com/ If, on the otherhand you just want something free, I'm sure there is an API to control WinAMP or Foobar2000 from your program. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "aftergrasp" group.
