"The Kop" akhirnya kalah 0-1 dalam duel lanjutan Liga Inggris, Senin
(8/3/2010).
Hasil ini kian mempersulit Liverpool untuk menembus persaingan papan
atas. Sampai pekan ke-29, Steven Gerrard dan kawan-kawan tak beranjak
dari posisi keenam dengan nilai 48. Aston Villa sewaktu-waktu dapat
menyalip karena baru bermain 26 kali.
Pada laga di DW Stadium semalam, "The Reds" sebetulnya bermain lebih
baik di menit-menit awal. Fernando Torres bahkan hampir membobol gawang
tuan rumah, tapi tendangan jarak dekatnya hanya menggoyang samping gawang.
"The Latics" perlahan-lahan bangkit dan mendapat hasil manis ketika
Liverpool melakukan kesalahan. Pada menit ke-35, Dirk Kuyt salah
memberikan umpan. Sodoran bolanya dicegat oleh Emmerson Boyce, lalu
dikirimkan ke Hugo Rodallega di kotak penalti "The Reds". Javier
Mascherano telat menutup umpan silang sehingga Rodallega bebas mengecoh
kiper Pepe Reina.
Liverpool berusaha mengejar ketinggalan dengan menaikkan tempo
permainan. Sayang, mereka kesulitan mencari peluang hingga babak pertama
usai.
"The Anfield Gank" tak jua membaik di paruh kedua. Kesalahan yang dibuat
Jamie Carragher hampir membuat gawang mereka kebobolan di menit ke-58.
Tendangan Carragher memantul ke arah gawang setelah membentur kaki
Marcelo Moreno. Reina sudah meninggalkan sarang, tapi untung ada
Sotirios Kyrgiakos yang menanduk bola keluar lapangan.
Permainan buruk bek Liverpool itu ternyata tak diimbangi oleh ketajaman
lini depan. Sama sekali tak ada tendangan akurat dari Kuyt, Gerrard,
maupun Torres bahkan jarang mendekati gawang lawan. Sekali peluang
cantik didapat Torres pada menit ke-75, namun aksi akrobatiknya hanya
membuahkan tendangan gawang.
