Rencana kunjungan Presiden Obama ke Indonesia yang rencananya
akan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 23 Maret nanti terpaksa
dibatalkan atau ditunda sampai waktu yang belum pasti.
Penundaan kunjungan ini disampaikan oleh pihak Gedung Putih
kemarin (18/3), dengan alasan bahwa Presiden Obama masih harus
mengurusi masalah dalam negeri AS, yaitu rencana pengesahan
RUU Kesehatan yang sedang dibahas oleh parlemen. Meski
demikian, sumber lain dari Gedung Putih mengungkapkan adanya
alasan lain yang membuat Obama batal berkunjung ke Indonesia.
“Kita tahu bahwa Obama pernah tinggal dan tumbuh di Indonesia,
oleh karena itu wajar apabila masyarakat Indonesia
mengharapkan adanya suatu nostalgia dari Obama. Namun Obama
takut akan mengecewakan teman-teman masa kecilnya, oleh karena
itu ia berulang kali menunda kunjungannya ke Indonesia,” ujar
sumber dari Gedung Putih yang meminta agar namanya dirahasiakan.
Menurut sumber tersebut, Obama selama beberapa bulan sejak
pelantikannya sudah berusaha keras untuk belajar Bahasa
Indonesia. Ia khawatir dirinya akan diajak berbicara berbahasa
Indonesia oleh teman-teman masa kecilnya, apalagi semua orang
tahu bahwa ia pernah menghabiskan masa kecil di Indonesia, dan
media selalu membesar-besarkan masalah itu.
“Ia sadar bahwa apabila rakyat Indonesia sampai tahu beliau
sudah lupa dengan Bahasa Indonesia, rakyat Indonesia pasti
akan sangat kecewa. Apalagi rakyat Indonesia tampak begitu
bangga dengan Obama, terbukti dengan mereka membuat patung
Obama kecil. Obama sangat terharu sekaligus khawatir, sebab
akan sangat memalukan kalau ia sampai melupakan masa kecilnya.
Memakai penerjemah? Itu akan membuat hubungan kedua negara
menjadi lebih buruk.”
Menurutnya, pemerintah AS sudah berusaha mendatangkan guru
kursus Bahasa Indonesia untuk Obama, namun tampaknya hal itu
memakan waktu lebih lama dari yang diperkirakan. Pada tanggal
18 kemarin Obama ditargetkan sudah menghapal 200 kosakata
Bahasa Indonesia dan berbagai macam kalimat percakapan umum,
namun tampaknya Obama gagal menepati target tersebut, sehingga
kunjungan terpaksa dibatalkan.
“Saya merasa iba melihat Obama. Sering saya temukan ia sedang
membaca buku Cara Cepat Belajar Bahasa Indonesia sambil
mengerutkan kening dan meringkuk di sudut gedung parlemen,
lalu ia akan menggumamkan kalimat ’shell-ah-mad puh-gee’
berulang-ulang kali sampai mulutnya keluar busa. Ini sungguh
menyedihkan. Apakah sebegitu beratnya beban keterikatan masa
lalu seorang Obama dengan negara Indonesia? Apakah karena
seseorang pernah menghabiskan masa kecil di suatu negeri
asing, lantas ia harus selalu dihubung-hubungkan dengan negara
tersebut? Ini tidak adil,” ujar karyawan Gedung Putih tersebut
sambil mengambil sapu tangan dan menyeka air mata yang menetes
di pipinya.
Masih menurut sumber tersebut, masalah pengesahan RUU
Kesehatan hanyalah kamuflase yang dikarang oleh parlemen.
Semua anggota parlemen mencintai Obama, dan mereka memahami
keresahan Obama. Oleh karena itulah anggota parlemen mendesak
Obama untuk kembali menunda kunjungannya ke Indonesia dan
sekali lagi belajar Bahasa Indonesia hingga ia benar-benar
lancar. Mereka ingin agar presiden mereka memiliki citra baik
dan tidak memalukan di mata teman-teman masa kecilnya.
