Ok, thanks everyone who've weighed in so far (dayum the rest of yas!). This was my motivation for casting a poll to the list, to try and get the rest of you to add some perspective to the topic and allow us to come to a non-binary consensus.
So, what I propose is this. Agavi 1.0 and prior versions should be compatible with PHP versions 5.0.0 and greater. I think we should maybe have another round of discussions on what we should target as min version at that time (I'd bet 5.1 is released as 'stable' by then, too *cough*). If something doesnt work with 5.0.0, it's a bug and should be addressed. Yea? For the specific issue of is_subclass_of, I've just comitted some changes to David's branch I hope we can all agree with.
