Ben, the world is experiencing never-seen-before levels of suffering,
exploitation, destruction, chaos and insanity. The number of people who
understand the nature of the process which is causing a whole
civilization (or rather their quality of consciousness) to degenerate is
so low ... it's just so scary. AGI could be humanity's last hope and
when people on one of the very few mailing lists dealing with the
subject can not tell 15k lines of unfathomable garbage apart from
"intelligence" ... well, that's just another level of scary.
I don't want to experience even lower levels of quality of collective
consciousness. I don't want to experience ever increasing levels of ego,
insanity and brutality. You know, "Trump Era" is not where it stops ...
it's not something even remotely funny. Every year we fail to stop the
process (systemic scarcity and fear) people will continue to degenerate
and you will have billions of primitivized people with billions of
insane opinions about what to do and who to blame ... just look at
Erdogan, Putin, Duterte, Trump, etc. and their followers ...
In Nazi Germany (a product of systemic scarcity and fear) there still
was an "outside force" (UK, US, etc. ...) that calibrated _somewhat_
higher on the scale of consciousness ... and outside force that could
intervene. Right now, our monetary system is turning the whole world
into one gigantic degenerated "Weimar Republic" about to collapse into
inconceivable chaos. AGI could be the "outside force" to do something
about it ...
Sure, you could lean back and say that collapsing societies are just
part of the "cosmic lila" ... and that maintaining mailing lists about
humanity's potential only hope where trolls post the most nonsensical
stuff imaginable is somewhat funny ... true ...
