Thanks for believing that I can do this.

"Conventional" AI was coding all the knowledge in Lisp. Then came
rule based systems and the AI winter. Neural networks have
produced the best results in language, vision, and robotics, now
that we have enough computing power to implement them. Now we have
real progress in AI. It will be interesting if you come up with
something better.

I think you are stuck in the "conventional theory". The time
is right for new theories. I'm still on the path to show that
there are better ways to actual AI than neural networks.
My opinion is that *AGI will progress with a clever mix of both machine
learning/neural network/statistical AI techniques and old symbolic AI*
(à la rule systems) techniques. Think for example of driving proof
assistants with neural networks.
Doing *that mix will require* *decades and billions of €/US$ of
research* (exactly like from the laboratory nuclear fission in the 1920s
and 1930s to the atomic bomb in 1945 and to the nuclear reactor in
1950s, or today for nuclear fusion, e.g. ITER
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITER>). There is no simple, unique,
technology or method for AGI. And AI techniques (both statistical and
symbolic AI) will help.
For more, see J.Pitrat's book /Artificial Beings/ and blog

AGI progress is much more like ITER or artificial DNA synthesis
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA_synthesis> than like Meselson–Stahl
experiment
<https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meselson%E2%80%93Stahl_experiment>
because emergence of intelligence (both natural & artificial) is a slow
and evolutive process.
