Those who don' t understand, criticize most vehemently. A sobering thought
then; if we cannot even make our living habitat a safe place for all of
humankind, why should "we" bother trying to invent artificial life? We barely
live, as it is. A rhetorical question at best. Some of us have excellent
reasons for doing what we do.

Well I dunno about my success at metaphorical butt-kicking, but for
sure I am still working toward actually creating AGI... I haven't
gotten there yet but neither has anyone else on the planet, on this
list or in any big tech company or gov't agency etc.

I'm pretty psyched that this year we (i.e. the SingularityNET/OpenCog
team) have gotten OpenCog's probabilistic logic engine to start doing
some simple cases of "learning how to reason better" (recognizing
surprising patterns in reasoning histories, which can then be used to
guide ongoing reasoning) -- I think this sort of meta-inference is
going to be very key to AGI. We've also made some interesting
progress on getting deep neural models for vision to work together
with symbolic reasoning and pattern mining.

Have also been pushing on more infrastructural stuff, e.g.
SingularityNET platform for coordinating the combined/interactive
activity of a bunch of different AI agents, in a decentralized way w/o
any central controller... this is not AGI per se but I think will help
in terms of creating the conditions for emergence of AGI from some
AGI-ish components (like OpenCog-based meta-inference agents) and some
more narrow-AI-ish components working together...

But I'm happy to have my Singularitarian ramblings appreciated as well ;)
