Out of curiosity I did a little research and there are several existing hybrid 
compressors, those that combine lossy and lossless methods. Those compressors 
have various means of switching between two algorithms. One can understand the 
reasons for this on some data like medical imaging, seismic, etc..

Over time I think we can expect more advanced hybridding getting to the point 
of a blurred distinction. For example, one might propose a graph of compressors 
where nodes are either or, or, dual mode.

There is at least one compressor, still looking at it, that may be a single 
algorithm lossy and lossless that has two "modes" but I’m not sure yet... so 
there may be none so far, but I only spent a few hours looking.

But then this might really just be overlap with various other AI fields.
