Yes yes you are right. But he dose not have the full picture. In my science paper i used VR as a way to explain to the lay man how AGI could come into being. Carmack is very capable person.
I saw this coming, but i thought it would be coming form someone in microsoft's halo lens department. Carmak is wild. Maybe it is his son that has give him a more level head? I can see him making one with supervised learning and it would only somewhat work in a virtual world. But it will not wok well in Boston dynamics robot. He is very weak on unsupervised learning, human psychology, temporal mechanics, grounding of symbols, language development, pattern theory, and energy management in life forms. He is king on 3 D environment simulation, GPU programming, and VR space. The only missing question is what are his son's abilities. If he not willing to spend the rest of his life doing this then i do not believe Carmak. AGI is not a one night hack fest!!!!!!!!
