I don't think anyone in this discussion is talking about souls, ghosts, or homunculi. When I say "consciousness," I mean a collection of feelings. "Immortality" I define as "the feelings keep happening." If you want to argue that the *only* way to make the feelings keep happening is to keep this particular meat-brain going, then that at least is not completely crazy ... but arguing that the feelings don't exist, well, I don't see how you could manage that.
