Says Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_(file_format)#History>: "*The
**.ZIP** file format was designed by **Phil Katz*
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Katz>* of **PKWARE*
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PKWARE,_Inc>* and Gary Conway of Infinity Design
Concepts.*"

So far so known.

"*The name "zip" (meaning "move at high speed") was suggested by Katz's friend,
Robert Mahoney.*"

And here I was, having thought since as long as I can read that "zip"
*obviously* stood for "zip up".

Like a hoodie. You know.

Because hoodies are so much smaller when you zip them up. What can I say. Made
perfect sense at the time.

Funny.

But the real question is.. why is everyone in compression called Mahoney???
