When, say, a webpage is delivered to you using gzip compression (browsers and
webservers do this automatically), what exactly was lost?

At one point I wanted to add gzip compression to my webserver but found out it
was already doing it. The compression is invisible and doesn't change a single
bit in the transmitted information (HTML text). Explain to me again what is
lossy here?
