We really do have a major conundrum here.
# We want to "democratize" AI to the point where we can get our own
grubby little mits on it and do our thing with it.
# Millions of people out there have sub-par intelligence either
logically or emotionally and can barely function in society as it is
much less having to accept the responsibility of using an AI system.
Now it looks like the vaccine will remove a great many of those people
but leaving that asside, the issue remains.
On the one hand you could say small mind -> small imagination -> small
problems.
But still, your average Democrat is pretty darn viscious. The democrats
can hardly be restrained from violence even if the government were
inclined to try, and the republicans can hardly be provoked to violence
despite a continuous string of provocations.
The way I see it, we're setting up a thing where the AGI will be faced
with a HAL-9000 style directives conflict where it will be ordered to
obey humans but confronted with orders like "kill all trump supporters."
which obviously violate ethics, or at least the reasonable ethics that a
normal person would program it with.... (which is an entirely different
problem....)
The expected 'solution' is an AI nerfed to the point where it's simply
no fun. =P
The news this week is that there are a bunch of open source AI projectss
going full bore out there. I'm sorely tempted to put a few hundred
thousand down on some high end workstations... But then there'll be
machines 1,000 times better for the cost of a regular pc by this time
next year... =\
