The 33711 signatures are not fake as far as I know. You can still find mine on the FHI Pause AI letter. It's possible that someone signed Yann LeCun's name and bio as Meta chief scientist (and again as NYU/FAIR). Anyone could enter the info on the web form. I did search the list for Eliezer Yudkowsky and he did NOT sign, which I find odd as the most prominent AI doomsayer calling for air strikes on GPU farms in Time magazine. Maybe because FHI and MIRI are competing organizations in spite of similar goals. Maybe he thought the letter didn't go far enough. Maybe because nobody can seem to agree on what the actual threats are, so we will just put out fires as they happen. Facebook deleted their 1 billion face recognition database. Problem solved.
Anyway I did not expect anything to come of the letter. Anyone doing actual research will just dismiss it.
