Well... this is good ol' de Garis as we all know him, only a bit more
annoyed. As to his positions in general - there is truly [almost] never too
much caution and risk analysis but his overall argument about the
inevitable Terran-Cosmist war and the likely-to-be-malevolent AGIs fuelling
and hovering above the gigadeath carnage has always struck me as a superbly
articulated and well-spoken variation on the Terminator-like scenarios
which do require some pretty hard argumentation to be considered plausible
and worthy of serious consideration. Apparently meanwhile he has also
acquired the awkward position where the humanity is "drowned" by superior
synthetic intellects, omitting the otherwise quite obvious and, in the
perspective, perfectly realistic prospect of humans augmenting their own
brainiage, overcoming their biologically built-in hardware limitations and
becoming in capacity much more like those intellects themselves.

As always, he is interesting to read and he has some very good, if not very
novel, points to [re]consider but in the whole his rhetoric seems to be
founded on a certain pet theory, a couple of heavyweight a priori
assumptions and general dislike towards certain approaches within the
larger transhumanist thought. All in all, Hugo de Garis as we all can
expect him to be at his finest, 4 stars out of 5.
