I guess "object recognition" works as a milestone because it works as a product, for the US Army for example. But it must have been a hell of a ride trying to map later stages and in-between stages, convincing investors why your object recognition will be more general and robust than all those instances of previous work, including Numenta. Plus, what could have happened to non-compete!
