I'm starting to form a hypothesis about myself and other ppl that seems to answer some questions about the opinions I tend to form and the opinions others seem to hold.

I think my perceptions operate at a fundamentally lower level of abstraction than other people.

When I play a game, or wander around Second Life for example, I see the things on screen as artifacts of a graphics engine and an underlying object model. Other people seem to automatically, and subconsciously, construct layers of meaning and intentionality that don't really enter my consciousness, except through conscious effort. Therefore I don't perceive them as real. In some ways I'm a bit handicapped because I have difficulty dealing with super-abstract concepts. On the other side, people who don't have much conscious access to the lower levels of abstraction tend to construct fantasies about what it would be like to be an upload or something, or fail to acknowledge distinctions that are unignorable to my mind...

I dunno, feel free to write this post off as a brain-fart...
