Synthesis is a part of the basis of a correlation. You might discover a
correlation as an initial stage of synthesis. However, co-occurrence is
obviously not the only reason to suppose that a correlation between objects
might be made. There might be a correlation of features, or, as can be
seen in my explanation of synthesis, there can be an operative relation
other than similarity and dissimilarity between features of different
'objects' that can stand as the operational purpose for the synthesis and
correlation. This goes along with my idea that concepts play different
roles in their interactions with other concepts.
