For a moment I thought you wrote frontiers-of-ethiopian-tourism :) I for one 
expect ancient cultures to start contributing again to modernity, despite the 
long break. Certainly there is something to be said about avoiding hardware 
projects when local productivity and production is 100 years behind the 10 
industrial leaders of the world (applies to Ethiopia as much as it does to 
Greece and another 150 countries). But software, yes, they should dive in with 
abandon and, considering the actual "productization" and the bootstrapping of 
the IT sector then, I am sorry to say, a lot of us natives are to blame. Yes, 
there is no local DARPA to throw a few million your way, but no, our best and 
brightest are still doing too little to package free and cheap products, to 
share their resources etc. Time to pool some resources for exotic languages OCR 
perhaps?
