This site has a neuroscience news alert feed which means business (not
dumbed down for the layman):

http://www.liebertpub.com/brain

I can get a feeling for the state-of-the-art with an alerts feed they
send every couple of weeks or so.  I don't pretend to understand it in
detail but just reading the abstracts gives a good indication of where
the science is at.
