Hi all, In past postings, I have discussed the fundamental impossibility of understanding the operation of complex systems (like us) without dependence on their imperfections. Unfortunately, we now have no way to distinguish "imperfections" from "artifacts of theoretically perfect operation", leaving no useful foundation for cognitive psychology. Before you can point to an artifact as demonstrating a particular sort of operation, you must be able to describe a better sort of operation that fails to include the artifact. Cog psi is able to point out lots of artifacts, but is NOT able to point out better operation to establish that the artifacts are indeed indicative of ANYTHING.
Now, http://Lumosity.com springs onto the scene and seeks to address the very artifacts that Cog Psi has depended upon, under the (unsupported) presumption that those artifacts are simply the result of insufficient training. Is Lumosity.com the final nail in Cog Psi's coffin? Any thoughts?
