Hello all,

You are invited to submit a paper for presentation at the First
Workshop on General Intelligence for Humanoid Robots, to be held at
ICRA-14, the 2014 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and
Automation. The workshop will be June 1, 2014; and ICRA as a whole
will run May 31 - June 7, 2014, in Hong Kong.

The deadline for paper submission is March 10, 2014.

See the workshop website here:

and the overall ICRA site here:

In addition to contributed talks, the workshop will feature keynotes by:

-- Marc-Oliver Gewaltig, from the EPFL "Blue Brain" Project:
"Neurobotics in the Human Brain Project"

-- Ben Goertzel, from the OpenCog Project: "Using Robots and Virtual
Worlds Together to Advance General Intelligence"

-- David Hanson, from Hanson Robotics (creator of Robot Einstein):
"Creating Conversational Character Robots"

-- Mark Tilden, creator of RoboSapien and BEAM robotics: "Analog
Biomorphic Robot Design: An Applied Example"

Why a workshop on humanoid robots and general intelligence? The
synergy between these two pursuits is almost obvious:

-- To create mobile robots, active in everyday human environments,
able to carry out a variety of goals in a flexible way, requires one
to make a fair degree of headway toward the broader problem of
Artificial General Intelligence.

-- The intersection between robotics and AGI is particularly important
where humanoid robotics are concerned, as people naturally expect the
humanoid robots they interact with to display a certain level
human-like savvy.

-- The humanoid form factor also presents unique opportunities for
learning intelligent behaviors via emotionally rich interactions with
humans.

The workshop will focus on the full breadth of issues at the
intersection of humanoid robotics and Artificial General Intelligence,
including but not limited to topics such as:

-- analog hardware for adaptive control and perceptual-motor integration
-- autonomy
-- emotional intelligence
-- entity and event identification
-- generally-intelligent adaptive control or perception
-- modeling of other agents (robotic or human)
-- self-modeling
-- sensorimotor integration
-- spatial, temporal and spatiotemporal reasoning
-- symbol grounding
-- theory of mind

Today, in 2014, both robotics and AI are at the point where it is
possible address these fundamental and difficult issues head on,
practically as well as theoretically.

We hope you'll be able to join us in Hong Kong for what we expect to
be a groundbreaking workshop, in the midst of an overall outstanding
ICRA conference.

Yours,
The workshop chairs:
Ben Goertzel
David Hanson
Mark Tilden
Gino Yu
