Hi all, A year ago I posted my new patent application for a faster way of parsing NL text.
On July 22nd it will be granted as patent 8,788,263. This, in a world where technology patents often take a decade to obtain. The secret here is to have at least one inventor who is at least 65 years old, which causes the application to be "made special" and move to the top of the USPTO's to-do list. You younger inventors should be looking for an older associate, so you can generate patents that are worth something, BEFORE the technology has had time to move on to something better. And, you others on this forum who are 65 or older: You have a special ability to push patents through the USPTO that you should promote when looking for new projects. EVERY project NEEDS one of us old farts, if they are ever to produce patented technologies that are still worth something by the time the patent has finally been granted. On a side note, ~20 years ago the IEEE conducted a survey of failed and successful projects, to identify what it was different that made projects successful. The thing that stood out most from the survey was the successful projects almost always had an older engineer working in them in some capacity. We older engineers understand this, as we have all seen enough successes and failures to "smell" an impending failure long before it becomes obvious to others, and we can explain what is going wrong long before the project hits a dead end. EVERY project encounters points of failure. Successful projects recognize these points and take timely action to avoid them.
