1. Virgin Galactic will probably not survive this. After each of the space shuttle failures, flights were grounded for 3 years. Investors and customers are going to back away, not from the risks, but from the delays and rising costs. 2. Synergy is the opposite of robustness. A spacecraft is synergistic. If you separate the wings, fuselage, and engines, it won't fly. AGI is robust. If you remove vision, hearing, language, navigation, or robotic manipulators, then the other components will compensate and the system will remain almost as intelligent. We know this because we observe it in humans with disabilities. Synergy is not an excuse for 17 years of lack of progress in AGI. It is wishful thinking. We have a long history of vastly underestimating the costs and schedules of big projects. AGI will revolutionize the economy. It is bigger than space travel. -- -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-f452e424 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-58d57657 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
