There is more to play with in terms of robotic or technological host-bodies, since they don't have to grow up, they can be assembled, and modified much more easily as adults. So there is certainly more room for creativity in host-body configuration and environmental experience. However I don't think we'll see much of an "explosion", rather a continuous growth I'd say. Also the possible introduction of technological life forms -- I hope.
