We're hoping to grow OpenAI into such an institution." >From my brief email exchange with them, they notified me they have a team of "9 researchers" and are starting "very narrowly", based on their team credidentials it seems they will be making a deep-learning algorithm parallelizable on GPU's. I suggested to them that if they are doing narrow AI they may as well contribute it to OpenCog, since it is a group of narrow-AI's working together to create a strong-AI. Though I have a feeling based on previous experience with such projects that for a while in the honeymoon phase they will simply be doing their own thing, implementing a deep-learning AI, hopefully open-source, dreaming it will achieve sentience. Eventually they may hit some roadblocks and reach out to the community. Who knows though, if they are really wise they may try to work with the open source/libreware projects which are already available. I certainly hope sooner than later, in unity is strength, the kind needed for Strong AI (AGI).
