Hi. I've recently put together a page containing an argument I've been making for years. It is my reply to those who claim that machine intelligence is likely to cause human extinction. Here's the essay:
http://matchingpennies.com/far_future_humans/ A brief synopsis: I argue that there are instrumental reasons for our descendants to keep us around. I identify one particular instrumental reason that I think is likely to be particularly important - namely: humans are the key to understanding the major evolutionary transition that leads to the dawn of the era of superintelligent machines - and that understanding the dynamics of this transition is likely to be one of the best clues to the form of intelligent aliens which might be encountered in the future. Clearly, understanding what aliens are likely to be out there could be very important for the long-term survival of our descendants. This is fairly likely to lead to the preservation of humans in a "meat" world, under simulation or both. Enjoy, -- __________ |im |yler http://timtyler.org/ [email protected] 617-671-9930
