Here's another idea... I had forgotten that these pads ( http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,106482,00.asp ) are starting to be available for recharging devices. All that needs done for the robot is to have it drive on the pad and sit still to recharge (may have to extend some electrodes\contacts to the floor). If you wanted to lay out some dough, you could have a room full of these pads so the bot could move freely while constantly recharging, thus meeting your objective..
