When I suggested filing an AGI-related patent, I was only being
practical because I figured that total abolishment of IP for
software/algorithms is rather unlikely. I'm not really qualified
to comment on the patent system since I'm only familiar with it
from the inventor's perspective. I would welcome improvements of
the current system but in the event that doesn't happen, I think
I can still adapt to the rules -- I don't think there could be a
major flaw in the system because most people file patents for
the sake of practicing or licensing them; they do not, *in reality*,
try to prevent others from practicing. In fact most people would
want their inventions licensed or practiced.

I have been planning to offer shares of the patent to people
who have helped in creating it. This includes: two of my profs,
a few people on this list, and an attorney who'd be drafting the
patent (total 10 people). The deal is that the patent's cost
will be divided in 10 parts and each person will own 1/10 of its
worth, or if they choose not to pay then I'll pay the remainder.
Also I'm thinking to donate perhaps 50% of (either the patent or
some percentage of my company's revenue) to a fund devoted to
social issues of AGI and automation. Potential recipients may
be SIAI or CRN (center for responsible nanotech) or some similar
organizations.

Well, I haven't figured out the details.

Cheers =)
